Jacklyn's Story When Jacklyn came into the pregnancy care center she requested a pregnancy test. She was in an emotionally and sexually abusive relationship, and an active heroin addict. An abortion was against her morals, but after seeing the positive pregnancy test, feelings of inadequacy and terror flooded her thoughts. A baby was not in the plans. She didn't know how she could possibly be a mother to this child, and her friends were encouraging her to abort. Knowing nothing about the pregnancy center, she was surprised at how understanding and genuine her counselor was, and it was the first time she did not feel judged by someone.

After receiving an ultrasound, she left the appointment with a new outlook on things, and felt a great deal of hope. Jacklyn checked into a drug treatment center, and stayed there for 17 days. She continued coming to Crossroads for support, and gradually began to express excitement and anticipation about her coming baby. Her fears and worries began to subside after watching our educational videos, taking our childbirth classes, receiving materials from our Mom and Baby care program, and doing Bible studies with her peer counselor. Kingsley Cecilia is now a year old!

Jacklyn recently wrote a note to us stating, "Crossroads gave me the resources I needed to gain confidence in myself to be a good mother, clean and sober, and inspired my new relationship with God. I can honestly say that the people at Crossroads aided in saving my life, and my baby's. I will be forever grateful to them."

Wanda's Story

In 1990, I went to the dentist for a routine cleaning. He asked if I could be pregnant. I said no, but he seemed certain that I was. I was shocked and very scared. A friend suggested that I check the yellow pages for a clinic where I could get tested for free, and that was when I discovered Crossroads Care Center. I went to the clinic and their test confirmed that I was pregnant. The love and support I received from Crossroads was incredible.

With working two jobs and attending school, a positive pregnancy test was not in the plans. At the time, my husband expected me to get an abortion, and ultimately I was forced to choose between my marriage and my baby. I chose my baby. CPC was a confirmation of my conviction of life beginning at conception. The support I received was exactly what I needed to help me through that time. My beautiful Alexandra is now a sophomore in college who stands proudly on her principles of choosing life, and service to others. Through the years, we have participated in many Walks for Life together.

Today I am a volunteer Spanish translator for Crossroads Care Center with the hopes of becoming a counselor. I am very thankful that I am able to pass forward the love, support, and encouragement that I received here 19 years ago. Thank you Crossroads for all the work that you do. ~ Wanda
