Abortion - Ending Your Pregnancy

An abortion means ending your pregnancy. 10 – 20% of early pregnancies end in miscarriage (natural death of the fetus). An ultrasound performed by trained medical staff can determine if your pregnancy is still viable. We encourage you to make an appointment to learn about the medical issues for all of your options so you will be able to make an informed decision.

Medical Abortions (aka "The Abortion Pill")

This is taking a series of pills to end a pregnancy. There are many side effects and risks to this type of abortion.

The combination of two medications are used for the medical termination of pregnancy. The first medication is given orally under the supervision of a healthcare provider.  This medication blocks the effect of progesterone that is required for the pregnancy to continue and develop. The second medication is taken 24-48 hours later at home.  This medication causes the uterus to contract and relax, thus helping to push out the contents of the uterus. These two medications work together to end the pregnancy.
